Rate Peter Houston As Manager (quiet Saturday)

Because it's all quiet on the Saturday Front wi' nae SPFL (DFC) games, I've been kinda half-reading aboot the Scotland vs Malta game tomorrow. There was a feature on the game in the P&J by Peter Houston. Nothing really dynamic in the article, other than the importance of getting off to a good start. As well as a wee look back, on the poor start by Scotland in Euro 2012, when Craig Levein & himself (PH) were part of that failure. I also recall when PH took over as United Manager when CL left. I think I am right in saying, under PH, United took a real hammering (wis it fae Celtic?) on his first game in charge, and then he had second thought aboot taking the United Job. However, he eventually come good. Although as we all know when he did leave United, there was no love lost between them.

Since then (imo) I've come to respect the man, as a manager. And on other levels as well, on the way he presents himself.......So question (bearing in mind it's a quiet Saturday) If the DFC PH, ever decide to leave, would you ever consider the present Falkirk PH as a possible replacement? Even if he has the skills to do a good job for DFC, many might feel his long association wi' the dabs, would mean he is far too tainted to be even considered. But if ever that situation was to arise (PH leaving) I think I would be OK to see him at least in the mix for consideration. I could be totally wrong here, but if he was ever to manage DFC, I think his past association with them, and that bit o'sourness when he left them, could maybe give DFC the edge. He has certainly gained a lot in the way of experience since those early days.

Meanwhile, I better emphasise Paul Hartley is still the man for me. But there may well be a time when we have to consider a new manager. Is it worth discussing, Peter Houston in that role , or for that matter, has anyone else got a few names to put forward? :)

No, just no!

On that note I would be keeping an eye on Gary Neysmith at East Fife and Jack Ross at Alloa. If it isn't McPake who gets the gaffer gig next.

These are my two. Jack Ross has been mentioned as a brilliant coach for years and linked up with Ian Murray at Dumbarton and did a fantastic job at keeping them up. He left Murray and things got a lot more difficult and Murray never succeeded at St Mirren without him (could be a total coincidence but that's what their fans seem to think). Hearts noted him as future manager material and gave him a role but there was some sort of incident which led him to leaving the club and he's entered management on his own for the first time this season. If he gets Alloa up and keeps them competitive in the division, I think he'd be a very strong candidate. Big Dundee fan too and he spoke about it in his online blog years ago so I think he'd be keen on us.

Naysmith similar to Hartley in the sense that he's played at every level and has opted to learn his trade at a part time side and has a decent record so far. Don't know that much about him but I took in a couple of their matches last season and was quite impressed with their playing style. The conditions weren't very good when we played them but they seemed well drilled and were in fact very comfortable (as opposed to Peterhead who got a lot of fortune IMO).

Think McPake will take a job down the leagues in a few years as think that's what Hartley would encourage him to do.
