Scottish Island Called Useless

Recommended Posts

Last week my brother who was visiting Islay for the first time decided that he wanted to visit the island of Jura. Although Jura is not one of my favourite places as it usually rains when I am there I felt duty bound to show him what to visit in Jura.

Whilst in Craighouse which is the "capital" of Jura I noticed a display board showing several islands across the bay from Craighouse. One of the islands was called Eilean Diomhain which means Useless Island.

I am certain that the posters on this forum will be able to put forward numerous people who are useless and should be deported to this island.

My first person is Willie Collum.

All the Argyll & Bute councillors who voted in favour of the introduction of a three weekly general waste bin collection service commencing 3rd October 2016 with no food waste bin collection service apart from the Helensburgh area.

I shudder to think what the smell will be like from these bins next summer but these "dozy" councillors have not thought this through.

At first reading of your post Islay ... I thought you meant the Bin Men came around THREE TIMES A WEEK !!

Can see now I am wrong. If it's every three week period (I think this is the case) Weel it does sound ridiculous.

Got a feeling islay, you've got a mighty long list of people, (hidden somewhere) you'd send to Useless Island.

Suggest the day you leave Islay to go back home get this aff yir chest by revealing the full list to the local paper.

Maybe better to wait to the boat is actually leaving Islay....Unless you like the idea of a few thousand steaming,

seething, slavering, hysterical, angry Islay Islanders, ripping doon the road to the Ferry Port efter yir blood

For the past ten years we have had a fortnightly general waste bin collection service while the residents of Kintyre are still receiving a weekly general waste bin collection service. This is very unfair considering all council taxpayers in Argyll & Bute pay the same rate of council tax based on Band D rates (9/9th's) but do not get the same service.

I have thrown down a challenge to two of our local Argyll & Bute councillors Robin Currie and Ann Horn who also represent the Carradale area which is still receiving a weekly service to explain why in tomorrow's edition of the Ileach.

I will be astounded if they reply.

There is a third councillor John "xmas trees" McAlpine but he is useless as a councillor and a prime candidate for Useless island.

Islay, don't take this the wrong way but have you ever thought about relocating on the mainland ? Seems a lot of hassle and effort to live there, any benefits outside the tranquility and vistas ?

Would love to go island hopping one day but the costs of a car and family, ferries and accomodation has always put me off. Anyway of doing it cheaper ? I've seen the discounts for ferries but if you want to take 3 or 4 hops it gets pricey

The introduction of RET reduced the cost of ferries for everyone instead of only for the residents of the Scottish Islands where the cost of living is higher than the mainland. No Tesco or ASDA superstores here only the useless Co-op.

You have obviously not been reading my previous posts regarding us moving back to Dundee hopefully before the start of the 2017-18 season.

I enclose details of Island Hopscotch from the Calmac website which allows car owners and their family visit several islands on the Calmac routes at a lower cost than if they had booked the ferry journeys separately.https://www.calmac.co.uk/blog/ultimate-guide-island-hopscotch-calmac-ferries

Last week my brother had his first ever holiday on Islay and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The Scottish islands are nice for a holiday but living there all the time is a different kettle of fish.

My two local councillors "bottled it" and did not reply in today's Ileach.

Therefore Ann Horn and Robin Currie my next two candidates for sending to Useless Island.
