Dundee boss: ‘We win as a team and lose as a team’

Dundee boss Paul Hartley refused to single out keeper Scott Bain for blame following the 3-1 loss to Aberdeen.

The Dark Blues were leading thanks to a Kevin Holt goal after 13 minutes but the Dons levelled six minutes later when Bain allowed a James Maddison shot to slip under his glove and into the net.

Paul said: “If you look at their goal, we don’t clear our lines and Bainy has to do better.

“He knows that himself.

“Bainy was disappointed in the dressing-room.

“Nine times out of 10 he would save that. Maybe it was a lapse in concentration.

“But we are not here to crucify anybody. We win as a team and lose as a team.”

Late in the game, Mark O’Hara was sent off for two bookable offences but Paul thought it was a little harsh.

He added: “He hasn’t made two bad tackles in the game.

“I think there were too many yellow cards.

“They weren’t nasty challenges, It’s the last few minutes of the game.

“Could we see a bit of common sense?

“Mark knows he has made a challenge he probably shouldn’t have made but I think there are too many players getting sent off.”

Despite the result, the manager was satisfied with the overall performance.

He continued: “I don’t think we deserved a 3-1 loss.

“It was a good game of football. We scored a really good goal.

“There was good build-up play and I thought we were comfortable at that point.

“I thought in the second half we were comfortable and played really well.

“There are real positives to take from the game.

“I feel the players used the system we played well, we were well organised and we passed the ball well.

“Apart from the result, there aren’t a lot of negatives.

“There’s a lot of pleasing aspects.”

Meanwhile, after watching his side move above Rangers into fourth spot, Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “We found our killer instinct because that is one thing we have been lacking.

“We reminded the players, the feeling we’ve got now is the reason why we play.

“That’s how we want to feel on our weekends, enjoying a win. It is all about winning.”
