This Category A Nonsense

This surely has to be looked at,25 pound for adults and 18 for concessions for games that nine times out of ten are live on tv.It's no wonder fans are voting with their feet.I pay to watch DFC only, not the away team, prices should be the same for all games.I'll say it again £25 to sit in one of the worst stands in Scotland (Derry) or watch in the house for free.DFC are chasing there own fans away from dens.rant over

The subject has been debated to death over the two and a quarter seasons we've had category A pricing but what I will say is that 1700 Aberdeen fans on Sunday for a league game at Dens is in the top two lowest supports I've seen them take to our ground in the almost 30 years I've been going.

£40 for an adult and child in the away end on Sunday or £15 for a concession when a game is free on Sky TV is laughable.

It's obvious why the club have category A though and it's to maximise income from Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen's large away supports.

Just a pity it's pricing non season ticket holders out of attending.

Rough calculation 1700 @£25 is £42500. Charge £15 and you would need just over 2800. Is there an economic case for charging less for the games that are on TV? TV advertising of the game is actively working against attendance at the game. May be worthwhile trying to give an offer for another game that you collect when you go to a game that is also on TV? Seems to me that boosting the numbers of fans attending is something that we should be interested in. Once you get out of the habit/tradition of going to the match it is very easy to drop out of watching football in the ground.

The pricing/TV/game on a Sunday lunchtime etc are all factors in lower attendances but for me I think there is also an argument that the novelty of spl football is wearing off.

The first season we were up did we not play Aberdeen 3/4 times at dens with good home and away crowds (barring the home crown for the cup match). Could it be fans are bored of playing at the same grounds sometimes 4/5 times a season and are losing interest in this.

For me a bigger league with one home and one away fixture against each club could help prevent this monotony.

Games against the likes of Hamilton and Inverness need to be cheaper than games against the likes of the Old Firm because we want to give folk a reason to turn up for the unappealing games.

Ideally it would be £20 for the big games and a tenner for the other games but that doesn't seem like an option for the club.

You cannot watch in in house for free - you must pay for Sky, BT or Virgin therefore contributing money to the club - its cash that way or no telly games and cash at gates.

Maybe pedantic but true. We all contribute some way or another.

I think that the surcharge for Category A games should be scrapped especially as most of them as shown live on BT or SKY.

The prices should be £22 with concessions £15 for all home games. These prices might encourage more Aberdeen and Hearts supporters to support their team at Dens.

1700 Aberdeen fans paying £3 less is only £5,100 less 20% VAT (one sixth) £850 = loss of income £4,250. More Aberdeen fans may have attended the game due to the lower admission prices resulting in a higher attendance and gate receipts.

I am not surprised that season tickets sales were less than hoped for when to date there has only been one home game at Dens on a Saturday with a 3pm kick off and the next home game with a 3pm kick off on a Saturday is against Motherwell on 5th November.
