Too young to have seen the double shuffle but Alan was always a gent at official functions, sorry to hear this news.  That's more than half the greatest ever team now in the high stand.

I feel he never got the credit he was due as part of our greatest side.

A sad loss to his family, and to our Legends....only 78, a relative youngster of the '62 side.

The 4-1 win away to Anderlecht, the 5-1 win at Ibrox, and the 3-0 title winner at Muirton are the videos I recall as featuring some of his skills as both striker & in his often deeper role supporting Gillie, and I'm sure there was a double-shuffle in one of them (Ibrox?). I recall, at school, several of us used to try to copy that double-shuffle, and made erses of oorselves every time....probably Iain Phillip was the only one who could do it & retain possession!

Alan was a genuine gentleman of the game, a creative & intelligent player, and an entire career without a booking.

Saw him play once when bulk of 1962 team were revived for a charity game at Dens about 1976, in snowy weather I think.

Smith def played at about age of 52 I reckon.
