Video Refs

In the Ajax game last night an assistant video ref had a word in the ref's ear and a yellow card was immediately upgraded to a red. Hopefully, it's a just a matter of time until we see this in Scotland, We'll still have plenty to argue about but divers will be f**ked and blatant injustices should mostly be dealt with.

Out of curiosity, is anyone against this? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Will the assistant video ref have "the bottle" in an Old Firm game to tell the ref that he has made an error and a yellow card should be upgraded to red. I doubt it.

Cobra ... Is this simlar to the TV replays used in the big rugby games? Or would the idea your suggesting, be some kind o' cheapy version?

I didnae see the game you referred to. But knowing Scottish Fitba, it wid be nae mair than a windy up camera?

The rugby stuff is not always successful. Scotlands loss to Australia at the last world cup is the outstanding example. video evidence clearly showed that the Scots player was not off side and the penalty should not have been awarded. Joubert, the ref, saw for himself that he had made a mistake and walked off the field rather than face the Scots players. the rules for intervention need to be very clearly defined, in the rugby case there was no ruling that allowed the video ref to interrupt the ref's decision. Think penalty decisions either way whether given or not, all bookings and any serious off the ball incidents should be verified by video, plus goal line technology to confirm whether a goal has been scored.
