John Beaton

He's booked Tavernier for a clean tackle and gifted Aberdeen the free-kick for their winner despite the fact he's perfectly placed to see the challenge. The ball even moves in a big way making it obvious the player got the ball. I find it astonishing that this is supposedly one of the top referees in the country making that call.

Imagine if officials had to go into the TV studio after the game to talk through their decision making. They'd be humiliated trying to explain that kind of error.

If that had happened in a Hamilton vs Ross County televised game they would have spent around 10 seconds discussing it.  The Rangers though?  Hard done by.

Beaton's family background will be getting questioned on the front page of tomorrows Daily Ranger.  Most 'other' football fans in Scotland probably thought 'karma' when the boy scored the free kick.

If you put referees on the spot for this I think you might end up with a shortage of referees.

Normally I think refs get a hard time but I struggle to understand how that could look like a foul from any angle.

The sooner we get video technology the better because far too many games are decided by refereeing errors. In games at Dens in recent years we were relegated because of a dive and Aberdeen's title challenge ended because of a blatant handball on the line. Ridiculous.

Burns comes on and takes a dive looking for a penalty, same as last week against us. Training with Pawlett all week must be affecting him.

Nine players booked in a competitive but in no way dirty game, poor decision for the free kick Maddison scored (some goal, if it was in the EPL it would be talked about for weeks) after a good start to the game Beaton lost control of it

I cant remember this level of hatred towards Rangers when they were successful, but nowadays everybody wants to take aim at them, I have to admit that I find it embarrassing when Dundee fans go on  about Sevco, Oldco, Newco, Zombies and the rest of it. Rangers being irrelevant to us it makes us look like small minded fans supporting a small club.

Support Dundee and want United to get beat..........that's what Dundee fans really do :D

Sometimes you wonder why we have other officials (Linesmen and 4rth official) there if their thoughts on a matter seem not to count?

I would like to see a lot more linesmen and women being able to have more say on matters on the pitch. For example, they should be able to question the ref's decision if they feel it is wrong and present their argument or evidence as they see it. Sometimes you have to wonder if the linesmen are not watching the game and don't see things that the ref has missed on the park.

All part of football these days and to be honest, I think they get all they deserve. I have a mate who is a Rangers fan, and believe it or not he feels exactly the same. He openly admits that if it were any other team (apart from Celtic) they would have been kicked out the league or wouldn't have been able to keep their titles and trophies.

Always want the DABS to get beat :)

This.

Supposedly when it happened the fourth referee turned to Warburton and said Beaton got it wrong.

The very least that should happen is he should be suspended for two weeks. Players make bad decisions/tackles and see red. Two weeks out. Referees should be no different.

Why has nobody pointed out that the penalty awarded to  Rangers was for a shirt tug which started well outside the box?

Studiously avoided on Sky and the BBC.

Does the fourth official have no input with what happens on the field of play? Is he able to let the referee know that he has got a decision wrong.

I'm pretty sure the ref can overrule any of his assistants. The ref had the best view of the incident so would have probably overruled the 4th official in any case. On a related topic (but a bit of a rant!), the assistants on either side and the fourth official never really get involved in the decision making, unless it's giving an offside. It p***es me off that the linesman who is two or three feet away stands with his flag by his side when there is a challenge right in front of him, before waving it frantically for a foul once the ref has given it from 20 or 30 yards away, it's just incredible. Why are they even there?!
