Yeah seems harsh too since he wasn't given a chance really. Looks like SG has gone for some academy players down south rather than players playing proper football up here which is a shame.

Excellent news. Just turned 19 and called up for the u21s. I think this answers the criticism that he's not progressing as a player and is in danger of ending up in the lower leagues.

Not being a dick cobra but Jerry Odriscoll was involved in a tug of war over playing for Scotland or Ireland at U21 level. No guarantees any u21 player will crack the big time

Wighton has a long way to go yet Ivan but I think this call-up suggests he's making decent progress for a lad his age.

Wighton certainly has a long way to go and is not ready for a starting position just yet.

I always see stuff on fb about how he should be starting etc but has done nothing to warrant a start.

Do boys love him just because he scored the winner against the dabs? (fair enough he is a hero for this) but he has done nothing to warrant a start every week. I've never come away from a game thinking that he's had a brilliant game or made a massive impact once he came on.

He may show flashes in a few appearances but when he is rewarded with a start he is often poor and left out the next game.

He is only 19 so has years to improve and no doubt will. However for those who think he should be starting, I just don't see it myself.

Age sometimes doesn't matter though....just look at that Maddison at Aberdeen who is also 19.

Maddison at Aberdeen was left on the bench despite coming on loan from a higher level,  not a good choice mate. 

Neither was selling crack coccaine and heroin either, for what it's worth Joel.

I think Wighton was built up to be something he isn't by Bomber and then the Dundee fans - I'm as guilty of this as anyone!

I think he'll be a very good player for us but with the hype he was getting at 16 I think people thought he'd have had a big move by now.

I'd like to see Wighton go back out on loan again this season. Think he's stuck in the middle at the moment here he's too good for development level and not good enough for top tier. I'm sure a mid table champ club would take him in a heartbeat

How about his man of the match performance against us at Dens the week before?

Agree about the crack btw.. bad choice.
