Have moves paid off for former Dundee men?

A lot has been made of the void Greg Stewart and Kane Hemmings created at Dens Park when they headed for pastures new at the start of this season.

However, the deadly strike duo weren’t the only players from last year’s Dark Blues to up sticks.

Tonight, the Evening Telegraph looks at how well they have done so far at their new clubs.

KANE HEMMINGS

Oxford United (app 8+3 sub), goals 3

It has been an indifferent start to the season from Oxford but Hemmings seems to have settled relatively well to life in League One.

After coming off the bench in the first two games he was handed a starting slot against Bristol Rovers where he duly scored on his full debut.

He has added a further two goals in the league, the most recent being against Southend two games ago.

A goal every three games would take him to over 15 goals this season, a good return in that league.

GREG STEWART

Birmingham City (app 1+5 sub), goals 0

It’s not surprising Stewart has taken a little longer to settle in the English Championship.

Birmingham have several big names in Che Adams and Clayton Donaldson as their two main strikers and it will take time for the wide-man to dislodge these two experienced players at that level.

Having started only one game, I’m sure the former Dee will be working hard to get himself in the starting line-up more often and won’t be content with having played 139 minutes for his new employers so far.

Having scored six goals in three games for Dundee before his transfer south, he will be looking to get a run of games to get back to that sort of form.

A new life in a different country and a change of team can take its toll on some players.

The physicality of the Championship is also something Stewart will have to get used to but, given time, he will be confident he can be a success.

PAUL McGINN

Chesterfield (app 10), goals 1

McGinn has started every game since his arrival at Chesterfield in the summer, scoring a goal in their League Cup game into the bargain.

A few eyebrows were raised when the attacking full-back chose the League One side over renewing his contract at Dundee.

But his decision is being justified with him being an ever present and getting some good reviews, too.

GARY HARKINS

Ayr United (app 7), goals 0

Gary Harkins in action for Ayr United

Harkins made the right decision in leaving Dens Park in August to get a regular game in the Championship.

At 31 years old, I wouldn’t say he was over the hill but, when your opportunities to play have been limited, then sometimes it is best to move on and get game time.

As an ever present at Ayr since his departure from Tayside and the chance to get involved in the coaching side, the move to The Honest Men seems to have paid off.

DARYLL MEGGATT

Ayr United (app 13), goals 0

Daryll’s time at Dundee was blighted by injury and, having started a mere two games last season, it was decided he would move on.

A new lease of life has seen him start 13 of the 14 games Ayr have played this season. It’s a return to the type of form that saw Paul Hartley sign him from Alloa being in evidence.

THOMAS KONRAD

FC Vaduz (app 4), goals 0

Thomas signed a one-year contract at FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein, who play in the Swiss Premier Division.

To date he has started in four out of the five games he could have since he signed as Vaduz struggle near the bottom of their league.
