Partick Game

Recommended Posts

Now absolutely massive and IMO must win for both the team and the manager.

However with El Bak and O'Hara out and Jordi poor enough to make me think I have a hope in the game,  what do we do up front? Front two of Wighton and Loy for me unless Haber signs.

The "footballing dinosaur" of Tommy Wright (I know mental aye?!?) showed what success you can have with 4 4 2 so I would shake it up and go

Bain

Hately

gadz

odea

holt

kerr

ross

vincent

williams

wighton

something has to change as today was DIRE. We need this to be like the Hamilton game last season or I can see the atmosphere turning hostile

Williams is more suited to left midfield or attacking midfielder than a wing back so can see where your going with the 4-4-2 Ivan, likewise Cammy in front of Hateley would give equal balance and support on the right hand side, so again I would have no issue with 4-4-2 and your team. However I would stick to the 3-5-2 and go with

Bain

Gadz, ODea, Gomis

Kerr, Hateley, Wighton,Ross, Holt

Loy, Yordi/Hauber

i think Wightons best position is behind the two strikers, he has a clever brain and can see a pass. Likewise I'd be hoping that Hateley and Ross would provide the cover for when the two wing backs push on and get up and support the strikers.

one things for sure, we have to take the game to Partick from the first whistle, get the crowd behind us and be offensive otherwise Dens might just into meltdown and God forbid we lose the first goal as the pitchforks will be out.

To answer Jack, no we can't sign any loan players until the window, can only sign people who are out of contract.

Who in our team could potentially deliver a brilliant man of the match performance to inspire us to victory? I'm struggling to name one. If we win it's probably going to be one big collective effort to grind out a narrow victory.

Both teams are nine without a win. A draw is probably the most likely result.

Be very interesting to see what happens if things go wrong midweek. Nelms and Keyes have praised Hartley in the past a lot. They'll know our problems are largely down to selling our best players. My feeling is that they'll stick by the manager even if we lose to Partick. If Hartley does go I think it will be a drawn-out affair.

I've always thought the same as yourself that Hartley has the backing of the board and his job has never been under any immediate threat but we go into the Partick game where anything other than a home win sees us rooted at the bottom clear on points and goal difference after the first round of fixtures. Or in other words, the worst team in the league.

I'd also take in to account this -

Dundee v Partick August 2014, attendance 6453

Dundee v Partick February 2015, attendance 5560

Dundee v Partick November 2015, attendance 5067

Dundee v Partick this Wednesday night, likely attendance somewhere between 4200 and 4700.

Yes the away support will be reduced in numbers too and it's midweek but that's somewhere in the region of 1000 Dundee fans missing this season that watched us two seasons ago. 20 percent of our home support roughly.

I would be extremely surprised if Hartley now wasn't under immediate pressure to deliver some results.

Most importantly for me, we have to be seen to be trying to dominate and win the game. I can accept not getting the result I had hoped for, if the team has made every effort to win the game. If we go out and play the same way we did on Sunday then I can't accept that. We have to be beating teams like Patrick at home, or at the very least doing everything in our power to do so.
