Club Ownership And The Championship

I remain very optimistic that we'll be in the Premiership next season but I do wonder how the board feel about the prospect of us returning to the Championship. In a small, cut-throat league, a club of our size will always be vulnerable.

It would be good if they came out and said we are prepared for that possibility and we'll remain at the club even if the worst happens. Obviously, it would be horrible to go through relegation again but it doesn't need to be the end of the world. I'd like to think we could avoid total meltdown if we do go down again.

I think the very prospect of a return to it is the reason I disagree with a few on here who don't think Hartley is under any immediate pressure to deliver results (a win here and there).

We took 8 seasons to get out that division on our own merit (albeit there were no play offs then).

The owners apparently have ambitions of building us a new stadium and we are supposed to be a long term project as such.

The odd bad season would be expected along the way but returning to the championship is unthinkable IMO and I would expect us to be in the deep sh!t as a club once again if we were to return there.

All just my opinion and hunch, but I am extremely confident that our board don't envisage the prospect of relegation as part of their plan so will take the measures necessary if we are cut adrift at the bottom unable to win games in the coming weeks.

A win tomorrow buys us time and puts Partick in our position as the worst team in the league who haven't won since the opener. It can't be emphasised how important this game is.

I'd say it would be far too early for FPS to come out with a statement like that. They might well have discussed it among themselves but an announcement like that at this time could be 'spun' as an expectation that we're going down. We know how FPS keep their cards close to their chest(s) so for them to come out with a statement like be bizarre.

Exactly. I'd be worried if our board were mouthing off in the press every week making unnecessary and pointless statements.

I know a club who went down that road and no matter what statement they made they looked an absolute laughing stock and a section of their support turned anything remotely positive into a noose for the board. It led to resignations, crisis talks, inquests and relegation.

No thanks.

I wouldn't want the board to release a statement specifically about relegation. I just think it would be reassuring if Nelms said there were contingency plans the next time he has a wider discussion to the media about the club.

IMO I doubt if DFC would survive relegation this season.

I give the BOD credit for the slow but steady progress that was being made with the club up to this point.

Our problem is that we have turned in some brutal, performances in the League and Cups, the current anti football style is also turning away our fans in big numbers.

It's a mystery to me why so many Scottish Managers can consistently produce teams with so little skill, imagination, passion and weighted down with stupid tactics.

If that is the case, the board should be admitting that publicly and getting out the way. I doubt it is though.

Any team of our size should definitely have actionable contingencies and contracts designed with relegation as a worst case scenario.

We're a club with no debt and with a fan base as big as any in Scotland outside the biggest five or six clubs. We have a current board that's running at break even or better and that has a decent amount of cash in reserve from two recent player sales.

Why would we be any more likely to go under than say Dundee United, a club that's been relegated recently, is massively in debt and is still haemorraging cash?

One way I can see it is if the fans abandon the club, not unrealistic but maybe unlikely.
