12,280 fans turned up to Tannadice on a sunny day to see Dundee totally dominate United.
Unable to make the breakthrough in the first half, Dundee wouldn't have that problem in the second have as they eventually found a way through a stubborn United defence.
A Hugh Robertson corner in the 67th minute was met by Brian Irvine who powered an unstoppable header into the back of the net to send the Dens Park faithful into rapture.
Darren Patterson was then sent off for the Arabs for a nasty challenge on Eddie Annand who had to be replaced by James Grady.
This seemed to work in Dundee's favour because Grady would double the lead after an excellent pass from Steven Boyack put him one on one with Sieb Dykstra. Grady would hit it straight at Sieb but the keeper couldn't keep it out.
Grady would run away celebrating the goal well before it had even crossed the line.
