  1. A Rory Loy double, one from the penalty spot, gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break. Paul McGowan added a third just after the hour mark before County substitute Craig Curran netted what proved to be a consolation five minutes later. The first real effort on goal came in the ninth minute when good work down the left by James McEveley set up Brian Graham but the forward failed to get his shot away first time and the ball was cleared. The opener came at the other end when Mark O'Hara got to the byline and his cut back was swept into the net at the near post by Loy. County had claims for a penalty turned down a minute later when Alex Schalk went down in the box under pressure from Darren O'Dea but referee Bobby Madden saw nothing amiss Graham then fired one over the crossbar from 15 yards after he connected with a McEveley delivery. Ian McShane replaced the injured Martin Woods in the 26th minute and with his first touch he fired over after being set up by Schalk. Liam Boyce let fly a minute later but his shot was also too high. Dundee continued to look a threat going forward and Loy was not far away to doubling his side's lead in the 34th minute with a low drive which flew just past Scott Fox's right-hand post. The visitors were awarded a rather soft penalty in the 41st minute when O'Hara appeared to be pushed by McEveley from Michael Duffy's corner. Loy drove the spot kick right down the middle as Fox dived to his right. It was all County from the start of the second half but Dundee soaked up the pressure and countered to devastating effect in the 62nd minute. Duffy latched on to a through ball from Loy and he squared it for McGowan to drill the ball under Fox and into the net. It looked all over but County almost pulled one back when Gardyne forced a fine save from Dundee keeper Scott Bain. From the resultant 67th-minute corner Boyce's shot got the slightest of touches from Curran on its way into the bottom corner. But there was to be no dramatic comeback as Dundee saw out the game comfortably to start the season with three points.
  2. The Dark Blues found their first away win of the season and first clean sheet over Ross County in the highlands. Mark O’Hara made it three goals in two games with a fantastic effort just outside the box in the 18th minute. Then with just minutes left, Faissal El Bakhtaoui secured the three points after he chipped county keeper McCarey from just outside the penalty area. Dundee moved into 9th place on goal difference after back to back wins against Rangers and Ross County. This was the Dark Blues of Tayside first clean sheet against the Staggies in the Premier league. McCann made only one change to the team that beat Rangers last Friday at Dens Park. Marcus Haber was replaced by striker Sofien Moussa due to a back injury which forced him off against Rangers. Marcus Haber took Moussa’s spot on the bench. Ross County manager Owen Coyle handed a starting place to the former Manchester United and Port Vale winger Chris Eagles. The Staggies were the first to test the resolve of the opposition keeper. Chris Eagles came in from the left unmarked, but his shot from outside the box was easily held by Parish. Then less than 30 seconds later, Roarie Deacon had a long range effort from over 20 yards which skimmed over the top of McCarey’s goal. Both teams were looking to attack and get that first goal. Ross Draper seen his header fly just wide of the Dundee goal and a Faissal El Bakhtaoui left footed shot from outside the box was blocked by the County keeper.. The Dark Blues took the lead on the 18th minute. O’Hara who looked to be full of confidence after his two goals against Rangers, did it again. A Deacon header found O’Hara in the middle of the County half, took a touch and then volleyed the ball from 25 yards out, past a helpless McCarey. Dundee nearly made it two in the 33th minute. Faissal El Bakhtaoui beat Fraser down the right and his cross came ever so close but bounced off the top of McCarey’s bar and out for a goal kick. County changed their shape at the start of the second half, resorting to a 4-4-2 formation but it was Dundee who pressed for a second goal. The Dark Blues had three chances early in the second half but couldn’t add to their lead. In the 53rd minute, McCarey couldn’t hold a low shot from Faissal El Bakhtaoui and parried the ball towards an incoming Mossua, who completely missed the ball when a simple tap in on an open goal looked certain. Josh Meekings then met a Jon Aurtenetxe low in swinging free-kick, but Meekings low stooping header was just inches past the left-hand post. In the 63rd minute, O’Hara had another shot from outside the box, however this time, his shot found its way into the arms of McCarey. It took until the 65th minute for the Staggies to really trouble Parish. An Eagles cross from the left was met by substitute McKay, but his header flew over the top of relieved Parish and landed on the roof of the net and out for a goal kick. Five minutes from time, County nearly found an equaliser through Lindsay and again, it was Eagles causing the Dundee defence problems down that left hand side. Eagles cross was headed down by McKay into the path of Lindsay, but Lindsay could only manage to scope the ball over Parish and out for a goal kick. Dundee scored the second in the 88th minute which managed to kill any hope that the Staggies had of getting a point from the game. Glen Kamara broke down a County attack and sent a superb long pass down the right to El Bakhtaoui, the little French striker lobed McCarey at the edge of the box to make it 2-0 and sealed the three points much to the delight of the away support. The Dark Blues have now taken 7 points from the last 3 games, move into 9th spot, and have kept two clean sheets in the process. This is a far cry from the run of five straight defeats which kept us at the bottom of the league.

  4. Paul Hartley's visitors ran out convincing 3-1 winners over the Staggies on the opening day of the campaign in early August but second time around they were forced to settle for a draw against Jim McIntyre's visitors, who enjoyed the better of the chances on Tayside. Dundee handed 20-year-old Australian midfielder Jesse Curran his first start in midfield, while Kevin Gomis returned at the heart of the their defence after his wife had given birth back in France recently. County remained unchanged from their 2-2 draw with Hearts in Dingwall and the Staggies - who went into this match on a four-match unbeaten run - had a clear opportunity to take lead inside three minutes. Christopher Routis' corner picked out captain Andrew Davies, who was all alone - but his shot from 12 yards went straight into the arms of home goalkeeper Scott Bain. A few minutes later the hosts had their first real glimpse of goal when Tom Hateley's corner was left by Curran for Craig Wighton, whose low shot was saved by visiting keeper Scott Fox. Shortly after, Dundee full-back Cammy Kerr released Wighton down the right and his cross into the middle was just too high for the onrushing Kevin Holt. As half-time approached, Wighton drove into the County penalty area and cut the ball back, only for Marcus Haber to fail to arrive in time to make the most of the opening. County began the second half in positive fashion and had the ball in the net in the 48th minute. Gardyne's cross was met by Liam Boyce, whose header couldn't be kept out by Bain - but the Staggies striker was penalised by referee Euan Anderson for a push on Dundee captain Darren O'Dea. Dundee were also attacking at every opportunity. In the 55th minute Wighton tried his luck with a dipping long-range shot which just went past the post, before County had a glorious chance to make the breakthrough in the 74th minute. Substitute Alex Schalk set up Boyce, who then put Routis right through - but the French midfielder dragged his shot wide. A minute later, Marcus Haber found himself clean through from Gomis' punt forward but the Canadian striker lashed wide of the target from 10 yards. The best chance in the closing stages came with 11 minutes remaining, when Schalk's header from substitute Jonathan Frank's cross was turned round the post by Bain.
  5. Ross County have signed Jason Naismith from St Mirren and brought in former Motherwell and Coventry winger Jim O'Brien.
  6. Dundee are on the road again this weekend as we travel to Ross County on Saturday looking to make it nine games unbeaten in the SPFL Premiership. A win last weekend at Motherwell meant that run continued with Paul McGinn hitting a first half winner. County themselves have hit a patch of form with back to back wins in the past two weeks. Wins over Motherwell and Partick have left the bottom of the table looking a little better for the highland side but they will be keen to build on those wins and move away from the relegation battle. Dundee have injury concerns over a number of players, Gary Irvine, Paul Heffernan, Luka Tankulic, Iain Davidson and Kostadin Gadzhalov will all miss out. Paul Hartley does welcome Simon Ferry back to the squad for the trip north.
