It seems that Aberdeen have cancelled their 80mil stadium!

THEY'VE been eyeing a new stadium for over 20 years.

But after several obstacles including land ownership feuds, protests from local environmentalists and spiralling costs - not to mention being unable to hone in on one site - they have DITCHED the idea for the foreseeable future.

Aberdeen first put forward proposals for a new stadium in 2003 when a spot at Bellfield Farm was mooted.

But this drew significant opposition from local campaigners.

So the club turned its attention to a new site at Loirston Loch in Nigg but this was vetoed by fans in 2009 who wanted somewhere closer to their current home at Pittodrie.

Despite gaining planning permission in 2010 the project was abandoned six years later and the new plan was for a stadium at out-of-town Kingsford, which would see an all-singing, all-dancing stadium combined with a football academy and community sports facilities.

People think we have had it tough with our new stadium! Phew!

It'll be a minor miracle if we pull this off when you read about Aberdeen's issues. I'm even more sceptical after reading that. Nelms will be remembered in the future as a modern day Bob Shankly if he manages to build this as it's going to see a titanic shift (imo) in the fortunes of our football club(s).

Fortunately for Aberdeen FC their owners haven't been negligent enough to allow its current home to slip into total and irrevocable disrepair.

Yes, JN will possibly be lauded if this stadium ever goes ahead. But bear in mind he'll be vilified if it doesn't - and Dundee FC will be fecked and most likely homeless..

Maybe Dundee Council will play ball as they city has been showing progress in last few years compared to Aberdeen. A positive decision and support would continue this.

snp majority council and the head honcho is a dyed in the wool arab who tried to stop riverside and made all his SNP councillors vote to close caird park, that's the biggest worry head of January  decision.

Officials must see past individual bias otherwise democracy is f****d.

Scrutiny would come into play plus appealing to Scottish Office. If this doesn’t happen then DFC are f****d!

I think we are f****d!

A local council that puts the 'party before the people' as in the Cairdy decision will think nothing of booting this into touch. Regardless of deputations, locals opinion, previous catastrophic decisions (Campy) and a many signed petition for Cairdy, they will lose no sleep in shelving our plans.

(btw...apologies for 'slightly' bringing politics into it)

Why is closing Cairdy putting party before people? A STV article a view weeks ago said Cairdy had 80 golfing members! How much do you reckon it costs to keep a golf course in prime condition? A few years ago I spoke to a guy in Fife who was employed to increase golfing numbers in the area. He said it was very difficult because only so many people could dedicate 3-4 hours for a round of golf and young people had other proprities. I wonder how many of the thousands who signed the petition actually play the course.

As stated previously councillors cannot just veto a planning application because of which football team they support. They must have a solid case against it.

Vote was carried by 15 (SNP) votes to 13 (opposition parties) votes.

Votes for closing Cairdy, unbelievably, included Sports Convenor Lynn Short!!

Like nodding dogs on the parcel shelf of a car, they all toed the party line...to the detriment and despite their own constituents views, deputations, petitions (including Charlie Adam) and a speech from the captain, who outlined how many non-members, juniors and ladies play the courses...previously the busiest municipal golf course in Europe!

Vote for the motion or take the consequences.
