So you can call someone sh**e or useless or past it but not donkey.

I get where everyone is coming from but it's a bit hypocritical by alot of us after some of the comments some people post.

I'm kinda with you on this one DD. it's a forum with a range of views, praise, criticism. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

I wouldn't choose to use the description 'donkey' myself but by comparison to some of the narrative we've seen on here, I would say there has been far worse comment, sometimes as a collective effort, particularly when the team is not performing well.

People queuing up to put the boot into the manager has been a recurring theme and some of the comments have been seriously negative, maybe abusive. Posters want to air their views, sometimes guided by emotion, and it gets a bit OTT at times. Unless it's of the extreme variety, I think most of us let it go. It's a football supporters forum.

I get that how you choose to express criticism can be deemed inappropriate in the eyes of some, I've been there too. But sometimes what offends some won't offend others.

Not having a dig at those posters who contribute positively to the forum and help maintain a general level of harmony and health on here. Keep the extreme narrative out, absolutely, a polite word with a hint of humour for some of the more moderate efforts maybe the way to go if you are offended?

This has become a very strange situation now that Jordon is talking. None of it convinces me there's a chance we see him kitting up for us again.

You wonder if he's been frozen out or has a few mental health issues at the moment.

Was meant to be starting on Friday then pulled out.

McPake talked pretty extensively on Forster in his pre-match interview and said that he supported him. He said he'd went through a similar thing whilst at Hibs and now that he's manager, he no longer looks at social media or indeed, newspapers because he knows it'll have an impact and that he advises everyone in football should do likewise. Admits that his players are grown men so would never 'enforce' a ban on such things, and says the issue was mentioned to him and he thinks it was poor from the Tele to publish such a thing. He then goes on to say, that he doesn't look at praise or criticism. He mentions that he never looked at social media after Ayr nor after the wins against Arbroath or Hearts for 2 reasons. 1. He'd be a hypocrite for only seeking out positive stuff and 2. 'We should be beating the likes of Arbroath and Hearts at home' (that line raised a chuckle).

But basically, this was a 5-10 minute spiel defending Forster and commenting on the issues of social media in a wider context.

For Forster to then equate his own situation with Glenn Kamara's is poor form or at the very, very least poorly phrased. It led me to think that he's upset with his role at the club, knows he's on his way out and lashed out. I pulled back from that thought, because equally, I have no idea what he's going through right now. He's said in a previous tweet that it's not had an impact on him, but his latest musings suggest that it has.

I'm with DD - In no way should fans be clamped down on for assessing a player as poor or even as a 'donkey' which is just another word for 'lacks any positional sense'. We shouldn't need to be 'happy clappers' if things are deemed to be not up to the standard. There's a difference from abuse, however, much different. His footballing ability is being judged, not his character which is different from Glenn Kamara and the subject of race. How many times have people said, 'James McPake is a lovely guy, passionate, blah blah, but a terrible manager?' They are being judged in terms of their role which is absolutely fair game (and I appreciate, some take it far too far on occasion on the likes of Twitter/FB as opposed to here or P&B - I generally think we're a fairly considerate bunch on the 2 main forums).

And in any case, Forster's initial point was purely focused on a newspaper publishing it - which was absolutely horrific - not the average football fan having an opinion.

Football is a sport fuelled by passion and people will always be overzealous in their statements.

I have a lot of sympathy for him. Footballers get a particularly hard time at all levels. He called the tele out on the publishing of those comments that I can only assume they plucked off the internet?? And he was absolutely right to do so.

Bit of a storm on twitter at the time and he said he was fine but just wanted to highlight the issues of mental health. He got an apology from the tele and the club had supposedly said to the tele to draw a line under it. No more was said. The club then put out the statement in support of Kamara then foster put another comment on twitter that he was upset that the club publicly supported Kamara but not him.

That's where I think he has gone too far. Yes, the club could've came out in support of him, but by all accounts he was fine and just wanted to highlight mental health. For me he should've contacted Mcpake or someone else at the club if he was struggling with it, not put it all over twitter.

Mental health is a serious issue but if your struggling with mental health you need to speak up. If he went to the club with his issues I'm sure they would support him. Wrong way about getting support from the club imo. Players from all clubs get slatted on forums everyday. The club can't come out and publicly back their players when they get some nasty comments on a forum. More people read this forum that the fans comments in the printed Tele imo. He needs to speak to the club to get the support he needs on this and only then publicly criticise the club if they don't support him.

You've summed it up much better than I was able to do in about half the words!

I think both you made the point alot more respectful than I did.

I didn't mean to make a dig at anyone personally, it was purely based on footballing terms.

I support Jordon Forster in this matter. We have to remember that the only reason this came up at all was because the Evening Telegraph published a piece of journalism that was as cowardly as it was lazy in which they simply speculated that Forster may be on his way to Partick Thistle in a loan deal.

That was immediately followed by a selection of quotes wholly lifted of twitter/facebook/football forums basically with the usual type of stuff like 'I'll drive him there', 'guy's a donkey',etc. This all came hot on the heels of Kane Hemmings publicly discussing his metal health struggles during his career and specifically at Dundee.

He also never said that managers and players are above criticism, let's face it the problem here is that the Telegraph was obviously looking to fill some space and just decided drop a barrage of sh**e into this players lap without a minutes thought in the form of online fans quoted opinions.

Furthermore Forster is right that the club should've supported him more forcefully. McPake said that he fully supported Forster only after getting a question put to him in the run up to one of last weeks games. IMO, Dundee FC should've formalised a statement of disagreement of the article's content and support for the players right to feel aggrieved.
