You shouldn't publicly chastise the people currently paying your wages unless you really have to.

What efforts did Forster make to deal with this matter privately?

We're not a major football club with a PR department. As far as I'm aware we have one American running the show.

If we're going to offer Billy Dodds a job at the club without being aware of his history with the club we're probably going to have a flawed strategy when it comes to dealing with local media insensitiveness towards the mental health of footballers.

A strongly worded email to Nelms would probably be better than a social media putdown if Forster has any further issues.

I think there's a simple rule to follow for all of us and journalists.

How about we all write what we are prepared to say and justify to the person face to face .

@Derry Drummer, would you call Mr Foster a donkey to his face and be prepared to explain why?

If you really credibly believe you would, then no one is in a poition to criticise you for it.

Just be aware that the debate will then settle on whether you truly are knowledgeable enough about football and donkeys to be credible, not to mention brave enough to direct a childish insult to a grown man to his face.

Don't get me wrong, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion and if you really believe he is a donkey or even just slow, then thats up to you.

I just think if you are going to publish it, then, like the journalists at the Tully, you should be held to a higher standard.

I understand your point of view but that's walking a dangerous line.

BTW I don't hide behind a username. So Im happy to say anything I post to anyone. Anyone in the entertainment industry enters it knowing they will be judged.

I'm not sure I understand where the dangerous line is. It's about accountability for me.

Great that you are willing to say anything you post about a person to them directly. I would maybe add that you should say it to their face first before publishing it online.

People in the entertainment industry, particulalry those that use social media for publicity, do, I think expect to be judged. The question is do you or I have a right to judge them publicly. I certainly don't. My knowledge of football or any of the entertainment industry professions is no where near good enough to risk making a fool of myself by making my opinions public.

My opinions are all over the place and change on a day to day basis. I'm are more than happy to publicise my thoughts in my area of expertise, but only where I'm sure it is backed up by evidence and my personal experience.

By the way, I don't consider footballers to be in the entertainment industry. The SPFL and Premier league maybe are, but footballers themselves are not, in my view.

So can a fan in the stand shout their opinion ever again?

Can you discuss any players ability ever again?

Good point mate. So of the stuff you hear at Dens would get you the jail anywhere else.

I think on a forum you have to take the good and the bad. I've posted before and then regretted it but that's part and parcel of a forum.

Without debates like this then this forum wouldn't be what it is. Really interesting reading the different views and how they personally deal with issues like this.

If neither he nor anyone close to him can hear you, then shout all you like. You're really only addressing those around you anyway.

I think it is up to you to know when he can hear you, or at least when you think he might hear you, even if he couldn't identify you specifically.

There was a discussion on here a few years ago when some boys directed unfavorable comments towards players at the end of a terrible defeat at one of the part time Highland clubs. The players heard and responded. I thought that was shocking, though others on here disagreed.

Discuss players ability by all means but, if you're going to do it publicly (like on this forum or within hearing distance at a match), then choose your words carefully. Imagine that you are actually saying it to the person to their face.

That's what I'm doing now with you. I really don't want to offend or insult you and I don't want you to limit your contributions to the forum. But you must see that directing a personal insult towards a player who has just opened up about his own mental health and the impact that a cowardly and opinionated newspaper article had on him and his family, might attract some criticism.

Your saying if a player can't hear you it's fine. But you also said would i say it to their Face.

Can't be both.

Every mistake the lad makes seems to be punished with a goal for the opposition.  That can be very hard to take and affects a player's confidence.  He is still the same person who did okay prior to coming to Dens.  Hopefully he can sort things out and get back to playing his best soon.

The lad put in some decent shifts last season, always a bit prone to errors but did a job for us.  After the hearts game at the start of the season he seems well out of favour and that must be tough to take as his career is not progressing.  Hope he does well in life and gets through this period.

The only piece of advice i would give any player is never read this forum or if you do remember half of us are lunatics who dont know what we are talking about and we say what we think without thinking of what we are saying ( and that includes myself.....)

Any player looking at supporter messageboards probably needs his head examined. 😄 For those that do, I reckon most would burst out laughing at some of the absurd content on here and elsewhere. Probably think a good few of us should be sectioned. 🤪
