United had pop-up shops in the Overgate and stuff during the Christmas period whereas we just exclusively use our wee shop.

They're ahead of us on that front as well and the range and quality of their general merchandise is better than ours as well.

I'd be looking if there's a better alternative to Proven Sports but it's the lowest of low priorities right now.

They actually do most things better than us.

Very true but not winning has ingredients from all angles.

Yeah, not saying I disagree with it but EVERY single thing is turned into a negative.

I would disagree that the CEO needs to be at the club on matchday. If the job is done reasonably well and there's a good leadership team, you shouldn't notice them missing and nothing urgent should really be disrupted by that. The nature of the job I would expect it to be pretty full throttle most of the summer and working schedule around different things so not surprised some match days would be missed for holiday days or other business.

It's the fact that it seems a void exists at the club rather than someone potentially taking personal time IMO.

Completely agree.

As many faults as Nelms has, not attending games isn't one that Id consider to be an issue.

He gets paid £120k a year from the club for the privilege though. I expect him to be there.

Just saw that it was a meeting with Macron in Italy, which at least makes sense.

Think that's a BS cover story - abody kens Macron is French and no Italian!

Macron's hq is in Bologna 5hrs North of Rome so maybe their top sales guy travelled to Rome to meet with John Nelms and ensure they continued to supply the world famous Dundee United FC! 😉

Nelms will have no doubt clinched a deal with Macron for our new hooped home kit (a homage to his beloved Celtic)and a black and orange away kit judging by his performance the past few years!

From what? The club shop? Macron make the shirts not Provan Sports and have done last two seasons

And Provan Sports organise the lot, including the deal with Macron.

Not the lot they don't. The club, i.e. Nelms picks (sometimes in consultation with club staff) and sometimes comes up with the design of the  himself . Provan Sports have unsuccessfully trued to suggest ideas for kit eg a black 3rd kit which was a good seller in their shop at Motherwell but was told that was a Utd colour. Nelms  negotiates the deal with macron every season, i.e. costs and how much free training gear and matchday kit they kit. The club get the majority of the income from the kit while everything else is part of the franchise flat fee. Therefore Provan Sports can deal with Macron with how much training and leisure stuff they but / sell - and there are times they were supposed to sell some of the red training gear that was meant to be exclusively for coaching staff.

Nelms also negotiated a deal with Macron, Utd and Scotland rugby to take have a shop in the empty unit on the corner of the train station (Opposite the V&A) to sell the Macron stuff separate from the club shop / Provan Sports. It was the main reason we pushed Utd in getting Macron. No idea why this never happened

Plenty direct flights to Bologna, maybe JN doesn't do Ryanair. Not unusual to combine a business trip with a bit of a jolly courtesy of the supplier but given the rugby was Saturday he probably could have made it back to Dens for 4pm. If we weren't such a shambles under his tenure I doubt anyone would have bothered if he was absent.

With the French general election next month, I hope Macron isn't seeking advice from Nelms ! 🤣
