Just seeing on facebook that Gordon Wallace passed away yesterday.  I met him a few times and he was always easy to speak to.  Still hard to believe that he was the last DFC player to score the winner in a national cup final.  RIP Stubby.

He signed in 1969 which was a time when I had started going to Dens every game for a year or two beforehand. I remember there being great excitement when he signed due to his goalscoring exploits with Raith and no one was disappointed, He didn't just score goals though and he laid on many chances for John Duncan and Jocky Scott especially. His partnership with Jocky is probably still the best I've ever seen at Dens, yes even better than the Cobra and the Mongoose.

We will obviously always remember his cup winning strike at Hampden but funnily enough when I think of Gordon I always remember two headed goals which was not really his strong point. The first being the opening goal in our 2-0 win over AC Milan where we absolutely battered them for 90 minutes but just couldn't get the third to take the game to ET.

The other being a late score in a Scottish Cup QF at Tynecastle in 1975 which earned us a replay at Dens which we won 3-2. It was probably my first 'big' away game where I travelled with my mates as opposed to with  my Dad or older brother. Being part of a huge travelling support that day was magic.

I share these sentiments and the hard to forget games you mention adding I sure GW scored on his Dens debut?

Strange...Because his name has been in the forefront of my brain, the last few days.

I never knew he had been ill...So sincere thoughts to his family & many close friends.

He must have been about the same age as me (We served an Apprenticeship at B&L)

Suppose I could say played fitba alongside him. But Limited to mid-day Factory Break.

Not surprisingly lost touch. But had reason to make contact with him a few years ago.

He was happy to give me his time, & was as helpful as ever. Love to Friends & Family.
