If Dundee Were A 'one Club City' (Us Of Course) What Could We Expect?

The other side of the coin is the current predict ament of the cities clubs.

United are broke and the owner is desperate to get out.

Their ground and other assets are security for several large loans.

They are having probably  their last gasp attempt at promotion and even if they are successful, it's doubtful if funds will be released to attract the standard of player to keep them in the top division.

After three seasons in the top division we are struggling once again to put together a side that will keep us in the division.

We don't own our ground.

The last manager left us in a sorry mess contract wise and an unbalanced squad.

We have a young Manager that is trolling the bargain basements of Europe to try and put a winning team on the park.

If we manage to survive the likelyhood is that the better players will be sold and the whole sorry saga starts again.

So a wee touch of realism would not go amiss.

Ten of the 19 were down to Aberdeen having arguably the greatest manager of all time. Before Fergie, Aberdeen were on a par with Dundee. Since Fergie left they have been on a par with United.

Yeah, the 'anomaly' of winning so many trophies in the 80s actually hides that Aberdeen have arguably underachieved outside of that era.

I suppose the closest we have seen to a Superclub would have been Rangers in the late 80s when they signed half of the England team, can you imagine now a Scottish team signing Joe Hart, Kyle Walker, Gary Cahill, James Milner, Ross Barkley

That's what they signed in the 80s when they bought Woods, Butcher, Roberts, G Steven, T Stevens

I dont think we will ever have the hundreds of millions to sign these type of players, if we were bought by some mega rich royal family like Man City or Russian billionaire like Chelsea it would take a minimum of 5 years before we challenged at the top of the SPL never mind going on in europe BUT that wouldn't be my Dundee, the Dundee that do everything the hard way, the Dundee that has us beaming with pride on a Wednesday night and depressed on a Saturday

If you want a "superclub" with rent a fans drive to Glasgow, if the bile there leaves a bad taste in your mouth keep on driving until you reach Manchester

Two things are needed to level the playing field in Scotland, a maximum of 3 non Scots in a matchday squad and a workable wage cap...........with no EBTs :D

Think you are too pessimistic. The poor prognosis that you give about Dundee United is the very scenario that might bring about a single team, us, in the city.

We do not own our ground but we have owners who have plans to build a new ground that will hopefully open up considerable income streams for us.

We have a talented young man who has the basic qualifications to be a football manager. Our team is creating goal scoring chances so we should be in a better place than last year. Several of the imbalances in our squad have been addressed, namely addition of creativity, some width in attack, a defensive mid who has some class, and young players who are getting a chance to play for the team in positions where they appear to be competent. We need to be supportive and patient IMO.

Aberdeen have won 19 major honours so I would say yes they have done significantly more than Dundee & United.

Fair enough if you are only looking at honours won in their history, they trump us and Utd hands down - but I'm more inclined to consider more recent past and I'm not sure they have achieved that much. Underachieved IMO.

I certainly much prefer the comments above BC. As a DFC fan/supporter for many years, & experiencing the days, when DFC were unarguably the dominant Club, the Topic was started with the scenario above in mind ....  DFC slowly, but steadily getting right back in the driving seat, and once again, being the Club that matters. Whilst United, continued in the lower regions, finding each attempt & each season, to get this illusive promotion to the Premiership, once again resulting in failure. DFC unarguably &consistently being the NUMBER ONE CLUB for many years to come. Stll hain sae much trouble finding this goal scorer, is maybe no the best start for this Great Launch, that eh had in mind :)
