Think Hemmings was unfortunate that he was the last man signed, apart from Dorrans. He will come good, but he did arrive after it looked as though Nelson and Johnson were going to be our striking partnership.   Agree we should be pressing higher up the pitch when we are trying to get the ball back. Maybe Gowser is supposed to be the second man? If so he's not universally loved playing in that position!

I agree that Hemmings will come good and I am sure that he will feed off a Dorrans or a Ness, Gowser is good when going forward however his tendency to turn back to face our goal and invite the foul often in our half is a weakness and too often puts us on the back foot. We are spoilt for choice in the middle now and McP has some tough choices to make.

I think KH is a better man to play in front of a midfield 4 with Johnson as the striker IMO it is a greater threat. Putting Mackie on the Left against Arbroath was ok, however that would be punished against the better sides.

Yeah, him,Dorrans,Meekings, not quite match fit, sharp, but it's only a matter of game time and they will be in top gear.Ness will be bit rusty aswell after his lay off.Looking forward to game this weekend, and the Jags will bring a decent support.

Surely Hemmings has to be up to speed/fitness by Oct? I just dont think he is getting the service. He has hardly missed any easy chances has he, or any at all?

BCG, IMO he needs a couple of breaks and to feed off the scraps hence my earlier comment of playing Johnson along side, it should give him a little more space and it will come.

I went for a coffee with pal who is spying for the Dabs and has watched 5 of our league games.(no not him!😂)

He said Byrne should sit and Dorrans and McGowan should sit in front left and right with Dorrans asked to push on and link with Hemmings. He said the risk with Dorrans is that he will drop deep when he is much better and dangerous player when he pushes on. McDaid “has to play on the left” as he is much more a threat cutting in ( he wasn’t aware of his goals from the left v Arbroath!)

His general observations suggested he posts regularly on this forum.

What I don't understand is why we have not developed a way to play with two up top

I think the result at Tannadice has confirmed that we need the extra body in midfield rather than upfront. The Defenders along with the GK are simply not good enough and by packing the midfield it gives them further protection.

Funny enough my thoughts are our midfield is not good enough (off the ball ) and that’s why he opts for extra man .

If we are playing one up front it should be Johnson, for me he is the best finisher we have, play him through the middle, don't let him drift out wide to get the ball and he will reward us with goals

Exactly my thoughts HF. Not sure who it should be, but in IMO we need one of them to play CF not be running all over the park.
